Beatriz Palmer identifies as a Black-Indigenous-Latina, bilingual and biliterate (English/Spanish), first-gen, daughter of non-literate immigrants, farm working parents. She has 16 years of experience working in Service Learning at MiraCosta Community College. Prior to her career in higher education she worked in the local non-profit and social service organization in North San Diego County. She currently serve in the director's role for MiraCosta College Service Learning and Volunteer Center, and has received numerous awards and recognitions for the work on and off campus. In additional to service learning, Beatriz leads the campus-wide days of service and creates events to increase civic engagement through non-profit work. As part of her role in working with local non-profits, she co-chairs the Racial Justice Committee of the Alliance for Regional Solutions in North San Diego County. She recently started the doctoral program at San Diego State University. She has also completed a masters in Sociology from Arizona State, and a bachelors degree from Azusa Pacific University. Aside from the work in community engagement, she teaches Sociology at Central Texas College, at their Camp Pendleton Military Base campus.
