
Call for Nominations
IARSLCE invites its membership to consider service on the Board of Directors. Nominations will be open from September 15-October 15, 2025. The Association is seeking candidates dedicated to deepening the mission of IARSLCE, who bring expertise in areas that strengthen the Association's work, including events and conference planning, resource development, K-12, and/or STEM-related perspectives. Prior volunteer involvement with IARSLCE through the annual conference, committees, or special programming is strongly preferred.
IARSLCE encourages nominations that represent diverse voices, regions, perspectives, and sectors, and who will help further the Association’s mission. There are currently 8 board vacancies, and we are seeking to fill at least 5 positions for the upcoming term. Positions available are At-Large (at least 2), Aligned Affiliate Organization (at least 1), Global, Non-US (at least 2).
At-Large: These positions are undesignated with no requirements related to work affiliation, location, and citizenship.
Aligned Affiliate Organizations: These positions are reserved for at least one individual who works for an organization that is aligned with the mission of IARSLCE.
Global/Non-US: These positions are reserved for at least two individuals whose primary geographic location, orientation and citizenship are outside of the United States.

IARSLCE MISSION
The mission of IARSLCE is to promote the development and dissemination of research on service-learning and community engagement internationally and across all levels of the education system. Board service is a direct avenue for contributing to this mission through strategic leadership, inclusive agenda-setting, and fostering scholarly communities of practice that advance knowledge and justice
COMMITMENT TO EQUITY & INCLUSION
IARSLCE is committed to building an Association that is rooted in equity and inclusion, and reflects the diversity of our memberships’ identities, perspectives, methods, practices, roles and sectors. We strongly encourage nominations from individuals who are from groups that are systemically and historically marginalized in higher education. IARSLCE encourages nominations from individuals who bring forward diverse epistemologies, lived experiences, institutional affiliations, and research traditions that can enrich and advance the Association’s collective mission.
ELIGIBILITY
Per the Association bylaws, the Board of Directors shall be comprised of at least 15 and no more than 20 members (including ex officio members), who focus on research in service-learning and community engagement and collectively reflect different contexts , disciplines and constituencies. The Board shall be composed to have a balance of individuals representing research interests across the educational spectrum.

EXPECTATIONS AND COMMITMENT
Terms of membership shall run from January through December.
The IARSLCE Board is a working board. Board members are expected to not only fulfill operational responsibilities but also to contribute visionary leadership that advances equity-centered research, inclusive governance, and cross-sector collaboration.
Each Board member is expected to chair or play a major role on one or more Association committees and/or serve as an officer of the Board (go to https://www.iarslce.org/committees for a description of current Board committees).
Each Board member is expected to volunteer 2-4 hours per week, with some weeks requiring more time than others.
The Board meets monthly; Board members are expected to participate in all official meetings. One meeting is held in person at the annual conference. Additional meetings may be held to address ongoing issues of the Association, as well as for committee work (usually by conference call).
NOMINATIONS AND CANDIDATE APPLICATIONS
Any current member of the Association is eligible to run for election to the Board of Directors. Members may nominate another current member or themselves. If you are not a current member, you must join the Association before submitting your nomination. NOTE: If you are nominating someone else, the nomination should be discussed and confirmed with the person before their name is submitted for the official ballot, and a statement of agreement to stand for election from the nominee must be included with the nomination. Nominations can be submitted here. All nominations will be reviewed holistically, considering the nominee’s alignment with IARSLCE’s mission, demonstrated commitment to equity and community-engaged scholarship, and potential to contribute meaningfully to the strategic priorities of the Board. Candidate Statement (200 word max): Please explain the candidate’s scholarly activities in service-learning and community engagement, as well as the strengths they would bring to the Board and the Association. In particular, note any experience in events and conference planning, resource development, K-12, and/or STEM-related perspectives. Prior involvement with IARSLCE—through the annual conference, committees, or special programming—should also be highlighted. If nominating someone else, please include a statement from the nominee indicating their willingness to stand for Board election.
Committee Service: Each Board member is expected to chair or play a major role on one or more Association committees. Please select up to 3 committees that you could support, and describe your experiences and/or the ways in which you are qualified to support the selected committees. BALLOT
The ballot will list the names of all candidates, and the Board category in which they have selected to run. At the completion of voting, those candidates with the most votes in each respective category will be recommended to the Board for ratification as new Board members. Once elected, each Board member generally serves and represents the entire membership (regardless of affiliation); the members in designated Board positions work to ensure that the needs and concerns of the constituency that they represent are considered and represented in Board affairs.
