IARSLCE Global Research Scholars Grant
For over 25 years, IARSLCE has promoted the development and dissemination of SLCE research internationally. As we approach the 20th anniversary of our Graduate Student Network (Grad SN), we are deepening our commitment to emerging scholars through the Global Research Scholars Grant program.
The Global Research Scholars Grant will provide financial support for research aligned with the Global Research Agenda (GRA). Grants range from $300 to $1,000 USD. Read the Request for Proposals.
The Global Research Scholars grant is made possible by the generous contributions of former Grad Student Network Chairs and alumni, as well as current and former board members. Learn more here.
Application Guidelines & Eligibility
Who Can Apply:
Current graduate students conducting SLCE research aligned with the GRA.
Must be an IARSLCE member at the time of the award.
Application Components:
CV/Resume and Graduate Program details.
Research Project Description (500–750 words).
GRA Alignment Statement (250–500 words).
Budget Justification (250 words) and a completed [link/download: Budget Template].
Letter of Recommendation from an advisor.

Funding & Reporting
Allowable Expenses: Funds are paid in advance via wire transfer and must be used for research-related costs, including:
Researcher Stipend: Time dedicated to research.
Community Support: Honoraria (cash or gift cards), transportation, and internet/mobile data costs for remote participants.
Contracted Services: Transcription and translation.
Knowledge Sharing: Publishing in open-access venues or developing workshops.
Reporting & Scholar Impact: Awardees contribute to the global SLCE community by:
Submitting an Outcomes Report summarizing their findings and fund usage.
Authoring a Blog Post for IARSLCE.org detailing lessons learned.
Participating in the IARSLCE Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The Selection Process
Committee Review: Applications are blindly reviewed by an ad hoc committee of Board Members and Grad SN members, ensuring representation across professional roles, geographies, and identities.
Evaluation Rubric: Reviewers score applications based on six key criteria:
Project Quality & Clarity: Is the research rigorous and feasible within one year?
GRA Alignment: Does it provide a compelling connection to the Global Research Agenda?
Budget Justification: Are the requested funds clearly research-related and allowable?
Involvement: Does the applicant have a plan for future engagement with the IARSLCE network?
Ethical Compliance: Is IRB or ethical approval secured or on a clear timeline?
Letter of Recommendation: Does the advisor provide strong evidence of the project's importance?
